Did you know that being silly is healthy?! I do. As a certified class clown turned FitGirl I live for a good sweaty laugh. The health benefits of laughter are both understated and underused, so turn that frown upside down and get ready to laugh your butt off (literally)!

Be A Silly Sweater.

Remember when you were a little tyke and you would laugh so hard that your side would start to ache? Uhmmmm that’s because a good belly laugh actually works your belly! Whenever you have a tear forming cackle your diaphragm expands, your abdominal muscles contract and your shoulders even get a little burn. And guess what else is funny? Laughing 100 times is equivalent to 10 minutes on the exercise bike! Hello increased heart rate and metabolism.

Heart Healthy Humor.

Laughter directly affects the way blood flows through the body, therefore reducing the likelihood of heart disease. Research shows that 15 minutes of laughter a day is just as important for your heart as 30 minutes of exercise 3 times a week is! Makes sense since people who laugh a lot on a regular basis have lower blood pressure.

Giggle At Your Sniffles.

Researchers have found that laughter actually boosts the immune system. When you engage in a good chuckle the number of antibody-producing T-cells increases…which in turn makes getting a cold or cough less likely. Now that’s some hilarious medicine right?!

Tickle Your Temper.

Next time your supervisor decides to use sarcasm as a managing technique swivel your office chair around and have yourself a genuine laugh fest. Laughter lowers the levels of at least four hormones that are associated with stress, so after a good cackle you should be far less tense and anxious. You can’t OD on a “tehee” or a “har-de-har,” so keep the laughter coming until that vision of drop kicking your supervisor goes away.

Praise In The Midst Of Pain.

I am about to take you to church on this one yall! When you choose to focus on the good in the midst of the bad the feel good endorphins that are released during your praise reduces both tension and stress. So pimp your pain and  get your praise on instead silly!
